Diploma in Sports Therapy
Awarding Body VTCT (Level 3)
Course Syllabus:
To train students in the techniques of Sports Therapy in a variety of contexts. The course covers:
- Providing advice and planning individual exercises for sports therapy clients
- Taping & strapping techniques for sports injuries
- The use of ultrasound for sports injuries
- Working with other professionals to provide post-medical sports injury treatment and rehabilitation
- Providing advice on prevention of injuries
- Health & fitness testing
- Elementary biomechanics of movement
- Assess posture / body alignment and provide individual remedial exercise
- Advanced assessment and treatment of sports injuries & conditions
- Treatment plans for specific conditions
- Protocols to follow for rehabilitation
- Introduction to advanced electrotherapy for sports injuries & conditions
- Supervised consultations with real patients and treatment sessions using the facilities of our fully equipped working clinic
We also provide a unique opportunity to visit and receive lectures from staff at the Training Village at the University of Bath. These world class facilities will be used by Olympic athletes in the run up to the 2012 games and provide our students with a fantastic insight into the support of elite level athletes.
Who should take this course?
Sports massage therapists / physiotherapy assistants looking to enhance their existing skills and to expand their client base through the use of a wider range of techniques for the treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries and conditions.
Entry Requirements:
VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy
VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy & Physiology
VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Health, Safety, Security & Employment Standards
HSE recognised Emergency First Aid Certificate
If you do not hold one of the qualifications listed above or its equivalent, we can provide training in order for you to progress to this advanced course.
Entry level students may study for the Level 3 Sports Massage Diploma and carry straight on to the Level 3 Sports Therapy Diploma course. Students booking both courses at the same time will receive a 5% discount off both courses.
Qualifications gained on completion:
Sport & Fitness Therapy Techniques Diploma (VTCT Level 3)
Ultrasound Therapy Diploma (VTCT Level 3)
Structure of Course:
Home study modules with text books and tutorial support, followed by 5 full days of practical workshops at our well equipped teaching rooms and professional sports clinic.
A one day lecture tour at the University of Bath. Written, oral and practical assessments are carried out on an ongoing basis during the course allowing tutors to provide you with continual feedback.
How long will it take?
The recommended number of guided learning hours on this course is 420.

Diploma in Ultrasound for Sports Injuries
Awarding Body VTCT (Level 3)
Course Syllabus:
This course will give you the necessary skills and qualification to use ultrasound in the treatment of sports injuries. The course will cover:
- The physics of ultrasound
- Conditions treated
- Contra-indications (conditions / patients not suitable for treatment)
- Treatment methodology
- Treatment plans for specific conditions
- Up to date information on the latest evidence based practice using ultrasound
- Practical training using ultrasound equipment

Health professionals looking to gain a qualification and practical experience in these specialist techniques.
