Sports Therapy

At the Barnes School of Sports Therapy we offer a range of courses that are suitable for everyone, from people who are looking to obtain an entry level qualification to trained professionals who are looking to expand their skill base. Graduates from our training programmes have found employment or set up in business in a wide number of areas such as sports clubs, gyms, complementary therapy centres, private health and fitness clubs, sports centres and private practice.

Our philosophy

Our philosophy is to provide our students with courses of the highest standard, run by experienced tutors who not only teach but actively work in their specialist fields so they can draw on their real life experiences in the classroom. Our team of tutors includes Chartered Physiotherapists, Sports Therapists, Sports Massage Therapists, Personal Training Instructors, Nutritionists and First Aid Instructors.

The School has developed a flexible course format which allows students to study around any existing commitments they may have. Using a combination of interactive online learning, home study modules, intensive practical workshops and close tutor support, students build up a detailed portfolio of work to provide evidence of study and to use as an excellent source of information for future reference.

Specialist practical training

We believe that what sets us apart from most other course providers is that the specialist practical training included in our courses is delivered within a professional working environment. Students receive this part of their training in small groups, utilising the modern facilities and equipment of our own Sports Clinic. Supervised client sessions are arranged where members of the public come in during the practical workshops for you to gain essential hands-on experience. This enables students to become familiar with how a private practice works, time management and dealing with members of the public. You can leave us with the confidence that you have the skills necessary to provide a professional service to your clients.

We also provide unique access to the Training Village at the University of Bath in some of our courses. These world class facilities will be used by Olympic athletes in the run up to the 2012 Games and provide a fantastic opportunity for those of you wanting to get into the sports and fitness industry or become involved with the Olympic movement.

Approved training centre

The School is an approved training centre for VTCT, Active IQ and First Aid International - awarding bodies regulated by the government body Ofqual, with curriculums conforming to nationally set standards. Our courses are recognized by a wide number of leading organizations including the Sports Massage Association, the Federation of Holistic Therapists, the Register of Exercise Professionals and the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council.
